August 29

Today we hit 4 weeks and 4000 miles since we left home. We’re averaging less than 11 MPG’s all in-while towing and not. And we’re still in Oregon… I was turned down on my first attempt to mortgage our house to pay the gas bill back home, hopefully I’ll find a friendlier banker soon. If not we may put out a call to family and friends for a lil help.

Today was a bit melancholy, as it’s our last full day on the coast. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time so far. We’ve been blown away by the beauty and diversity of the region and it’s laid back, friendly feel. Oregon is unique because it has so much natural diversity-ocean, mountains, rain forest, desert, wine country, agriculture, and forests. It’s all spectacular.

The coastal weather has been cool, with a fair amount of mist and fog mixed with sunshine. This makes for gorgeous evening colors and perfect weather for hiking/biking etc. The parks we’ve stayed in have been fantastic, all sitting on pristine pieces of land.

We spent time today in Astoria, probably our favorite town so far. It’s very cool, set on a hill, cool modern architecture, good vibe. Here’s the love of my life hobbling down one of their streets. Not surprisingly, she’s been hummin that ole Nancy Sinatra tune-These Boots Are Made For Walkin: https://youtu.be/SbyAZQ45uww

We lunched at the Astoria Brewing Company. Oyster shooters, a halibut “burger” for me, shrimp for Kari.

I snuck in another bike ride.

Here is a picture of the Astoria Column, one of the towns main landmarks. It’s perched on Coxcomb Hill and overlooks the mouth of the Columbia River. The 360 degree views are unbelievable, I didn’t try and capture them.

We packed Shirley up to get ready for tomorrow’s move, then headed to the beach for our last night on the coast.

Another successful day…
